Windows Vista 100 Days Later – A Superb Performance

- Microsoft is continuing the efforts to improve Vista user experience

By: Marius Oiaga, Technology News Editor

Windows Vista is delivering a superb performance. Have you been watching...? Microsoft has declined to offer the actual statistics related to the sales of Windows Vista, but the Redmond Company is not shy about sharing other details related to the operating system. David Wascha, Microsoft’s Director of Partner Marketing for Windows Client, made public data concerning other aspect of the Windows Vista market
performances.

The number of Windows Vista certified devices has increased dramatically since the operating system hit the shelves. If on January 30, 2007, there were in excess of 1.5 million devices certified for Vista, 100 days later that number has increased by no less than 400,000, and is now over 1.9 million. According to estimates from Microsoft, the company is currently failing to offer support only for 4% of the devices that users are using with Windows Vista, with the remaining 96% taken care of. Wascha informed that any device that generates more than 500 "driver not found" errors globally is prioritized for Vista compatibility.

Out of the volume of Windows Vista compatibility errors centralized by the Redmond Company, approximately 85% have as their source a limited pool of just 4,000 devices. Market analyst firm NPD painted a positive picture of Windows Vista compatibility stating that out of the top 50 consumer applications, 48 are supported by the operating system. Things look good as far as security is concerned, with the top five developers worldwide offering solutions for Vista.

Wascha also disclosed that the support calls for Windows Vista have dropped by 21% in comparison with Windows XP, in the same 100 day period since the launch. Moreover, 355 test servers are performing 10,000 tests per day and have already gone through a mass of approximately 14,000 applications with a total of 10 million tests.
