Apple is addressing issues with syncing recurring events and reminders with the new MobileMe Calendar via a new update to the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows users, now at version 1.6.4.

As usual, all the important details are provided via the Support section of Apple’s web site, where the Mac maker starts off with a short description of the MobileMe Control Panel for Windows:

“MobileMe Control Panel is required to manage iDisk settings and for syncing of contacts, calendars, and bookmarks on a Windows PC,” it explains.

Apple then proceeds to specify what version 1.6.4 does in particular, noting that “This update fixes issues with syncing recurring events and reminders with the new MobileMe Calendar.”

Just in case someone who doesn’t use MobileMe ends up on that page, Apple further explains that “MobileMe is the online service from Apple that automatically syncs your email, contacts, and calendars over the air across all your devices. It also helps you find your lost iPhone or iPad.”

If you want to give it a go, visit Apple’s web site here to learn more about the service. You can sign up for a free trial and see if it works to your advantage. Those who would like to buy a license need to fork out $99 (per year).

In addition to the usual cloud-based stuff like e-mail and file synchronization, MobileMe has built-in security features that help owners of an iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad find their lost device.

Also available as an iOS application called Find My iPhone, it also supports the new, fourth-generation iPod touch thanks to a recent update.

A benefit available exclusively to MobileMe customers, the Find My iPhone iOS app can display a message and optionally play a sound for two minutes at full volume, remotely set a passcode lock on your device, locate your iPhone or iPad on a map, or even remotely wipe it.

As noted on several occasions here on Softpedia, version 1.0.1 of the Find My iPhone app also includes translation fixes for French, German, and Japanese languages, and fixes for various other bugs.

MobileMe Control Panel for Windows 1.6.4 first of all requires a MobileMe Account (obviously), and then either Windows XP Home or Professional SP3, Windows Vista SP1 or later, or Windows 7, as well as Microsoft Outlook 2003, 2007 or 2010 (32-bit) for calendar sync, and iTunes 9.2 or later.

Better than Google's free adware offerings. Come on Apple, where's MobileMe support of Outlook 64-bit??
