The built-in Windows Update feature is obviously one of the tools every single Windows user should rely on, but a few years ago only the most tech-savvy consumers launched it.

According to data released by Microsoft, Windows Update usage skyrocketed since 2008, as the company delivered more and more critical and important updates.

Windows Update and Microsoft Update usage grew by 59.7 percent in the last four years, Microsoft said, and will continue to increase on the long term.

“Almost all of this growth is because of increased use of Microsoft Update, which went up 53 percentage points between 2008 and 2012, compared to 6 percentage points for Windows Update,” Microsoft explained in its Security Intelligence Report Volume 13 released today.
