The Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit Update for Windows Vista has been made available for download. Via the SDK, Microsoft delivers a collection of documentation, samples, header files, libraries, and tools designed to enable software developers to build Windows applications for Vista. Vista SDK build 6.1.6000.16384.10 addresses developers working with both native Win32 and .NET Framework technologies.

"This release of the SDK supplies updated compilers and documentation. The updated compilers are the same ones that recently shipped in Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1. This SDK also includes the samples, tools, headers, and libraries that shipped in the Windows SDK for Vista in November, 2006. This download contains the SDK only. To build .NET Framework 3.0 applications, you must have .NET Framework 3.0 Runtime Components," Microsoft revealed.

Build 6.1.6000.16384.10 is an evolved form of the last SDK for Windows Vista, and users will need to first uninstall previous editions prior to deploying this version. In essence, the SDK includes documentation, samples and tools and build environments.

The SDK will offer you access to task-based how-to documentation, API reference topics, and feature overviews. Additionally, the SDK contains Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and Win32 samples but also in excess of 100 GUI and command line tools. However, the list does not stop here, as Microsoft informed that the tools also deliver command-line compilers (both x86 and x64), debuggers, performance monitoring applications, security management utilities.

Windows Server 2003; Windows Server 2003 R2 (32-Bit x86); Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 editions; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista; Windows XP are the supported operating systems and you should plan ahead and manage the download as it weights no less than 1180.1 MB.
