Customers dealing with Windows Small Business Server migration scenarios can access free guidance from Microsoft.

There are a couple of Windows SBS 2011 guides on the Microsoft Download Center designed to simplify the process of transitioning to the company’s offering for small business customers in two scenarios.

The software giant provides “Migrating Windows SBS 2011 Essentials to New Hardware” and “Migrating Windows SBS 2003 to Windows SBS 2011 Essentials” free of charge, with the labels of the downloads pretty self-explanatory when it comes down to describing what the resources bring to the table.

The guide designed for existing Windows SBS 2003 customers is set up to explain how to “install Windows SBS 2011 Essentials in migration mode on a new server, and then migrate the settings and data from the old server that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003 to the new server that is running Windows SBS 2011 Essentials .

“This guide also helps you demote and remove your old server from the network after you finish the migration process,” Microsoft revealed.

The remaining resource is focused on simply transitioning to new hardware while keeping the same software solutions.

“This guide describes how to migrate an existing Windows SBS 2011 Essentials domain to new or significantly modified computer hardware, and then to migrate the settings and data.

“This guide also describes how to remove your existing server from the Windows SBS 2011 Essentials network after you finish the migration,” the company added.

Both resources were published earlier this month on the Download Center and can be accessed without any restrictions.

Customers that need to migrate to Windows SBS 2011 Essentials are advised to read the two guides, as they explain in detail the intricacies of the transition, and the best strategy to complete the move successfully.
