The Surface RT was officially launched on October 26, 2012 and since then users had no other choice to browse the Internet but to use the built-in Wi-Fi support.

A USB Ethernet adapter, launched for the second-generation Surface tablet, appears to be working on the Surface RT too, according to a short statement published on the product page.

“To use the Surface Ethernet Adapter with Surface RT you'll need to update to Windows RT 8.1 and check Windows Update,” the product description reads, pointing out that Surface RTs need to be updated to the new Windows RT 8.1 in order to be compatible with the new adapter.

Microsoft is yet to release a public statement on this, but Surface RT owners would most likely be delighted to find out that their tablets now support wired connections too, especially because some updates released by Microsoft messed up the Wi-Fi connectivity.
