Mobile phones powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system can now provide users with the possibility to enjoy augmented reality on the go via the Wikitude browser.

The application has been voted the "Best Augmented Reality browser" for three years in a raw, namely in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Through using the camera inside the mobile phone, the browser provides users with the possibility to discover the world around them in a completely new way.

“Search through lots of exciting content and points of interest from Wikipedia, Youtube, Twitter, Flickr, Starbucks and thousands more,” the application’s description reads.

Users can take advantage of Wikitude to find things that are directly in their vicinity, courtesy of an "Around Me" Tool. They can also specifically search for various places that are of interest to them.

“Craving sushi? Just type "sushi" into Wikitude’s search box, hold up your phone and see all the sushi restaurants around you. Looking for special offers near your home or nearest shopping centre? Simply view all the augmented reality mobile coupons to get up to 50% off,” the app is described.

The application will also enable them to find what they are looking for more easily, no matter if it's events, tweets, Wikipedia articles, restaurants, or something else. With it, you can identify places and objects around you faster.

Some of the main features of this Windows Phone browser include:

- Find events, tweets, Wikipedia articles, ATMs, restaurants, user reviews and much more around you - Experience places near you in augmented reality or show them on a map or list view - Browse more than 150 million places and interactive content from more than 2,500 content providers or so called "Worlds" - Explore and identify places and objects around you - Search for specific places, for example "thai restaurant" - Find mobile coupons and discounts for stores and shops near you

Not to mention that the Wikitude Augmented Reality Browser is available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace for free for all those interested in giving it a try.

Developers can now head over to www.wikitude.com/ARchitect to learn more on how they can build AR experiences using the developer platform.
