Apparently, Windows Phone Mango does not come with NFC support, although one Microsoft official said last week that it does.

The company has issued an official statement on the matter, Winrumors reports, and said that NFC is indeed missing from Windows Phone, but that the feature will be included in a future release, bound to land next year.

No specific info on when the said update might be pushed to devices has emerged so far, but Microsoft made it clear that the capability would be available on devices soon.

“Microsoft would like to correct a previous statement it made around Near Field Communications,” a company’s spokesperson stated.

“While NFC is not currently supported on Windows 7.5, it is coming. We expect NFC-enabled Windows Phone devices to ship within the next year.”
