Microsoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system has seen an impressive growth last year, at least when it came to web usage, the latest info coming from NetMarketShare shows.

The company notes that Windows Phone reached a 1.05 percent share in mobile internet usage at the end of December, with a 289 percent growth when compared to the 0.27 percent usage share it accounted for a year before.

When compared to other mobile operating systems out there, the platform’s share might not look impressive at all, yet the significant growth it has seen in the past year shows that adoption is going up as well.

The smartphone market has seen a 50 percent growth last year, WMPoweruser notes, yet platforms such as Symbian, Bada and BlackBerry lost market share.

Web usage on RIM’s OS went down to 1.59 percent in December, for example, though Android and iOS registered growth.
