Today, Redmond-based software giant Microsoft announced the launch of its Windows Phone Next App Star contest on Facebook, enabling users to decide which app will be featured in the one of the company’s TV commercials.

There are 64 applications included in the challenge, and users can vote for the ones they like the most, while also being able to win some prizes.

“We’re also giving away 21 new Nokia Lumia 920s—one free phone for each day of the contest. To enter, all you have to do is vote,” Microsoft notes in a recent blog post.

The company also notes that, in the first round of the competition, two applications are competing in the camera software area, namely PhotoFunia and Lomogram.

“PhotoFunia is a cloud-based photo-editing tool from Capsule Digital of London that automatically identifies the face in the photo and then lets you manipulate it using over 300 cool effects. You can even create funny face photo montages,” the company explains.

“Lomogram from DevRain Solutions out of the Ukraine is another great photo editing app that gives you 40-plus filters and tons of borders and light effects that can be combined in multiple ways to achieve the perfect look.”

Both applications are available for download via the Windows Phone Store, and can be accessed from a web browser of directly from handsets on this page and via this link, respectively.

The contest will run between March 19, 2013 and April 8, 2013, which means that users will have many chances to win a Lumia 920 smartphone, as long as they vote on apps they like the most.

Those who would like to participate should head over to this page on Facebook to learn more on the matter. They should also make sure they read the rules carefully, as those in some countries cannot participate. All users interested in casting their votes should be 18 or older.
