Android is the clear winner, with more than 75% share in most European countries

Windows Phone fans haven’t been treated with too many new smartphones in the last couple of months, at least not to the point handset makers are spoiling Android users.

Anyway, the new figures from Kantar Media have just arrived, and they show a slight increase in market share for Windows Phone in some European countries.

However, even though Microsoft’s operating system seems to be on an ascending trend, in some countries Windows Phone dropped a few percent in a matter of just one month.

Comparing the numbers from June to those from July, Windows Phone is doing better in the UK and Italy, but it lost momentum in Germany, France and Spain.

The good news is that both Germany and France were among Microsoft’s strongest Windows Phone markets, so the slight drop may not affect it that much if it’s only for one or two months.

Kantar reported back in June that Windows Phone had a market share of 6.4% in Germany, which has been confirmed to have dropped in July to 6.1%. It’s not a major decrease, but it shows that people lost interest in Windows Phone for some reason.

In France, Windows Phone accounted for no less than 10.6% of the market share, but in July that number got to 8.7%. Hopefully, once Microsoft announces new devices in early September, things might improve once again in this country.

Spain does not seem to like Windows Phone anymore. The OS lost 2.7% from June to July, which seems to be the most important drop for Windows Phone in an European market.

Windows Phone seems to have gained a few more followers in the UK as well. After reporting a 9.6% market share for Windows Phone back in June, Kantar now claims the platform has reached 9.9%.

The operating system’s presence in Italy has improved as well, as Windows Phone’s market share jumped from 10.1% in June to 13% last month. This seems to be the biggest jump for Microsoft’s mobile platform, but there’s always room for improvement.

The situation seems to have changed in the United States, but only slightly. Windows Phone is doing better in the United States, where it gained 0.1% since June, from 3.8% to 3.9%.

According to Kantar’s numbers, Windows Phone market share also slightly increased in China (0.1%) and Australia (0.3%), but it’s still very low.

iOS followed the same descendent path in all countries mentioned above except for the UK where it slightly increased by 0.1%. Apple’s OS dropped from 10.6% to 9.5% in Germany and from 14.7% to 14.3% in France.

In Italy, iOS has a market share of 11% down from 12.3% back in June, while in Spain it decreased from 6.8% to 6.2%. The operating system now accounts for 30.9% of market share in the United States after having reached 31.5% back in June.

On the positive side, iOS’ market share increased in China from 12.8% to 13.2%, which is not surprising considering Windows Phone has a very limited presence in the Mainland (under 1%).
