Just as some of the previous rumors on the next version of Microsoft's mobile operating system suggested, the platform is expected to become available for existing devices as soon as this week, and some more confirmation on the matter emerged.

Roughly a week ago, info on the possible landing of Windows Phone Mango as a software update on last year's device as soon as September 15th emerged, and chances are that the report will pan out, it seems.

The latest WindowsPhoneDev Podcast, which has already shed light on some of the aspects that Microsoft was keeping tightly wrapped up, confirmed that the update might be landing as soon as this week.

“Next week is going to be a big week for Windows Phone,” Lowdermilk brothers stated in the podcast.

“We have been told by various sources that Mango will be dropping and the final tools will be dropping for developers, so that would be interesting and something to look forward to.”

September has been long said to be the release time frame for the new OS flavor, although there have been some suggesting that September 1st would be the lucky day for enthusiasts, which, obviously, did not pan out in the end.

However, this week, with BUILD and all, might actually bring along the Windows Phone Mango platform on devices, along with some more info on the new handsets that should land on shelves with the OS on board.

We've already seen three Mango phones officially launched, namely the Fujitsu IS12T that already went live in Japan, and the HTC TITAN and Radar that were unveiled in the wake of this year's IFA trade fair in Berlin, but some more of them are expected to make an appearance in the next several weeks.

Handset vendors like LG, Nokia and Samsung are among those who should unveil new devices to the world, and we might be able to learn more on their plans for Windows Phone later this week.
