The gold release of Windows Phone Mango has reportedly leaked in the wild and is available for download from various sources. Reports indicate that an official developer release of Windows Phone Mango RTM Build 7720 has made its way out of Redmond and can already be grabbed by those who know where to look for it.

The full Build string of the Mango leak is 7.10.7720.68, as you will be able to see in the image included below.

Microsoft confirmed that it released Windows Phone Mango to manufacturing at the end of July 2011. What this means is that Mango was handed over to OEM partners for pre-installation on upcoming smartphones. Windows Phone Mango is the next iteration of the software giant’s mobile platform and the successor of Windows Phone 7.

A series of forum reports reveal that some of the users who ignored the risk associated with leveraging the Windows Phone Mango RTM Build 7720 leak have managed to upgrade successfully. Other Windows Phone users however did run into problems getting the leak to work.

The Zune Beta client Build 4.8.2134.0 is used in the upgrade process, which works best from Mango Build 7712 Developer Beta to Build 7720 RTM.

At the same time, owners of Windows Phone devices running versions of the platform such as Nodo Build 7392 or Mango Build 7661 Beta also seem to be able to upgrade to 7712 and then to 7720 RTM.

Don’t bother asking me for the Windows Phone Mango RTM Build 7720 leak, there’s no point, and I will not link to download sources, or even mention any of them for that matter.

My advice to Windows Phone users is to wait for the official upgrades from Microsoft and not jump the gun. The software giant has yet to announce a specific deadline for the general availability of Windows Phone Mango, but the company is preparing to start serving updates.

Recent rumors that Windows Phone Mango was slated for launch on September 1st were denied by Microsoft officially, with Joe Belfiore, Corporate Vice President, Windows Phone Program Management stressing that they were nothing more than speculation.
