Despite Microsoft’s efforts to bring more users on board, Windows Phone keeps going down in most big markets across the world, with new statistics showing that Redmond’s mobile platform continues to be far behind Android and iOS in every single country.

Figures provided by Kantar show that Windows Phone’s market share dropped in the three-month quarter ending in November 2014, as compared to the same period of the previous year, and the countries where it actually gained users are Germany, Japan, and Australia, with an increase of 1.4 percent, 0.4 percent, and 1.1 percent, respectively.

Otherwise, Windows Phone declined massively in almost every market, and the biggest drops were experienced in the United Kingdom – down 3.6 percent, and Italy – down 3.3 percent.

Android still the leader

Kantar stats show that Android continues to be the leading mobile operating system worldwide, but it also experienced some drops in a number of markets.

"While remaining the dominant global OS, Android’s market share dropped in most European markets and in the US where the decline was the first since September 2013," said Carolina Milanesi, chief of Research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

“Great Britain saw the strongest share decline for Android at 6.7 percentage points,” said Dominic Sunnebo, strategic insight director at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech Europe.

Android still dominates the Spanish, Chinese, and German markets with impressive shares of 85.9, 80.4, and 10.1 percent, respectively.

Windows Phone in the United States

As far as the United States market is concerned, Windows Phone is not doing very well and actually lost 1.6 percent of its users in the aforementioned period, dropping from 4.6 percent to 3.0 percent year on year.

Android still leads the American mobile market with a share of 48.4 percent, but Apple is the runner-up with 47.4 percent, so it’s pretty clear that Windows Phone is still far behind its rivals in Microsoft’s domestic market.

In China, Windows Phone is said to power only 0.6 percent of the mobile phones in the country, while Android has a market share of 80.4 percent.
