NBC has decided to discontinue its app for WP

Windows Phone receives hit after hit, as more and more developers decide to pull their apps from the store and thus leave users of Microsoft's mobile platform with no option to access their services.

After Bank of America and Chase, another big name has decided to do the same after having ignored its Windows Phone app for almost one year.

NBC has removed its Today app from the Windows Phone store earlier today, and although no reason has been provided for this decision, it's easy to see why this has actually happened.

The last update received by the Today app was released on April 30, 2014, so no improvements have been shipped in almost one year, which is probably living proof that NBC had absolutely no interest in providing Windows Phone users with an easy way to access its news service.

What's more, even though the app was still available in the store, it appears that NBC hasn't updated the news displayed to Windows Phone users, and some of the stories were several months old.

“Contents in other pages except Top Stories are not current. The Entertainment section has stories that are at least 6-8 months old,” a user review posted in the store reads. “Really OLD news stories....NOT UP TO DATE...Lisa Vanderpump danced 18 months ago and there's still a story about that...” another one adds.

Windows 10 treatment needed ASAP

Interest in creating apps for Windows Phone is rapidly dropping, and users of this particular operating system are still lacking key software available on other platforms, including an official Snapchat client.

The Snapchat saga perfectly defines the crisis that Windows Phone is going through right now, as Windows Phone users do not have an official client to access the service and, at the same time, are blocked from installing third-party clients because of security reasons.

Microsoft promised to talk with Snapchat and bring a client in the store, but for some reason, negotiations stopped and users are still left out in the cold.

Windows 10 is expected to change this a little bit, but the new OS is only due in the second half of this year. It remains to be seen how many devs pull their apps from the store until then.
