To help retail locations promoting WM 6.5-based devices

Redmond-based software giant Microsoft will have the latest flavor of its Windows Mobile operating system available on the market as soon as tomorrow, October 6, and the company is already making the final preparations for the event. The launch of a new website seems to be part of these final touches, in an attempt to provide a helpful hand to retail locations that will very soon start promoting the new Windows phones.

And since Microsoft decided to call the handsets running under its new Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system “Windows phones,” it seems that it also came up with a new logo for these devices, one a little different than the green Windows Mobile logo we all grew accustomed with: an orange background radiant with a white Windows phone logo.

The new logo can be seen on the Windows Phone ParnterShop, where other files are also available, including retail execution guide, multimedia files and more. One thing that is sure here is that Microsoft is working hard on making things right with the new version of its mobile platform, and we already learned that it is set to complete the work with the release of its future Windows Mobile 7 operating system, due sometime in the second half of next year.

Windows Mobile has been long said to be a rather old mobile platform, and it already started to lose some market share in front of more appealing OSes, such as Android or webOS, yet things might soon get on the right track for Microsoft's platform too. The launch of Windows Mobile 6.5 is just one step in this direction, and, with a wide range of handset vendors and wireless carriers awaiting to unleash their Windows phones, all had to be in place.

The first Windows phone is already here, in the form of AT&T's HTC Pure, yet tomorrow we should see a lot more handsets available on the shelves with Windows Mobile 6.5 on board. Whether the platform will manage to prove that Microsoft is on the right path with revamping its approach to mobile phone users remains to be seen, but we can at least admire its efforts for the moment.
