Microsoft is working at full speed to bring Windows 10 Mobile to the market this year, but Windows Phone is still alive and kicking, and what’s more, market share figures prove that its adoption is on the rise in almost every single big market out there.

Kantar data for the three-month period ending April 2015 shows that Windows Phone managed to increase its market share in the EU5 region from 8.4 percent to 9.2 percent during the period, a growth of 0.8 percent from 2014.

Android is obviously number one here with 70.5 percent, down from 72.8 percent, while iOS scored an increase of 2.2 percent to 19.3 percent.

In the United States, Windows Phone’s performance remained unchanged, so the 3.8 percent market share Microsoft’s mobile platform had last year is still the same for the three-month period ending April 2015. In this particular market, Android is leading the charts with 62.4 percent, up 2.9 percent, while iOS is the runner-up with 33.2 percent, down 2.1 percent.

Up in Germany, France, and Italy

There’s no doubt that Windows Phone is selling a lot better in Europe, and these numbers from Kantar confirm that the Old Continent is much more interested in Microsoft’s mobile platform than the US is.

For instance, Windows Phone increased its market share in Germany from 6.9 percent to 7.5 percent, while in France it grew from 10.1 percent to 12 percent.

Italy is still the number one market for Windows Phone in Europe, as Redmond’s mobile OS increased from 11.8 percent to a record 13.3 percent.

The WP market share declined in the United Kingdom from 9.5 percent to 9.0 percent, and in Spain from 4.8 percent to 2.5 percent. A small drop was also recorded in China, where Windows Phone is now running on 1 percent of the handsets in the country, down 0.1 percent.
