Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system is gaining more users around the world, and has managed to grab no less than 5.6 percent market share in the United States in the three-month period ending April, up from only 3.8 percent a year ago.

However, Windows Phone is still far behind Android and iOS, which are currently occupying the first and second positions on the market, respectively, a recent report from Kantar shows.

Android ended the timeframe with a market share of 51.7 percent, while iOS accounted for 41.4 percent of handsets, Kantar unveiled.

BlackBerry’s mobile OS, however, went down to only 0.7 percent market share, while Symbian dropped to 0.3.

With a 1.8 percentage points increase year-on-year, Windows Phone certainly shows signs of further growth, greatly helped by the success of Nokia’s Lumia devices, it seems.
