There’s been much talk on the next major update for Windows Phone 8 as the operating system still has some things that need to be ironed out.

Word on Microsoft’s plans to launch the next major upgrade for Windows Phone 8 this summer emerged last month, but things seem to have been changed since then.

The so-called Windows Blue and Windows Phone Blue was initially slated for a release sometime this summer, but due to the fact that the latter’s development advances at a much slower pace than expected, Microsoft decided to move the launch to winter.

The guys over at WMPoweruser recently spotted a job posting by Microsoft for a Software Development Engineer in Test, which confirms Windows Phone Blue is now scheduled to be released this holiday:

“This is a great time to join as we’re completing our current release are getting ready for our next release targeting the holiday of this year and we’re chartered with keeping the momentum for Windows Phone by bringing new killer devices and delightful user experiences.”

Aside from Windows Phone Blue major update, Microsoft plans to offer at least two more updates for Windows Phone 8 handsets, which are known as GDR2 and GDR3.

These smaller updates are meant to fix some of the problems that Windows Phone 8 users are currently facing. In addition, Microsoft might finally deliver the long-awaited notification center.

Greg Sullivan, Microsoft's senior marketing manager, also stated the company is definitely focusing on Windows Phone 8 and is looking to add more functionalities and new features.

“We're going to have an upgrade path going forward. Windows Phone 8 can evolve. We have an architecture that enables portability and is fundamentally hardware independent. As the market evolves and customer requirements demand it, we'll evaluate options,” concluded Greg Sullivan.
