Next year, Microsoft is expected to make official a new major version of its mobile operating system, one that will supposedly land on devices as Windows Phone 9.

The upcoming OS variant, allegedly tightly related to Windows RT (which is also expected to be updated to Windows 9 next year), will arrive with a completely redesigned user interface, it seems.

According to a recent tweet coming from Mobile-Review’s Eldar Murtazin, Microsoft will leave the Metro UI aside and will pack the upcoming platform version with brand new looks.

No specific info on what these changes will include has been provided as of now, but it appears that only the smartphone OS will be affected. Apparently, Microsoft hasn’t decided yet on whether it will make the change in Windows 9 as well.

Windows Phone 9 is expected to become official in the second half of the next year.
