Microsoft announced Windows Phone 8.1 a few months ago and has already launched a preview build for those who wish to try out the new features included in the new operating system.

Now that Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview has already been installed on more than a million devices, Microsoft is readying the rollout of the final version, which is expected to arrive at the end of June.

But what about all the features that were supposed to be included in Windows Phone 8.1, but did not make it in Developer Preview and most likely will not be available in the final version either?

Well, it appears that Microsoft is already working on the next major iteration of the operating system, namely Windows Phone 9.

Even though it’s way too early to talk about features and availability, especially that Windows Phone 8.1 is not even released for the general public, the first details might have just leaked online.

The folks over at Myce have managed to get their hands on a Microsoft internal document, which confirms that Windows Phone 9 preview build will be released sometime in Q2-Q3 2015.

The document also mentions that along with the Windows Phone 9 preview, Microsoft might release a similar preview build of Windows 9, which is now in Alpha stage.

No additional details on the main highlights of Windows Phone 9 are included in the document, but we expect more details to start pouring in a few months.
