Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is currently gearing up for the launch of Windows Phone 8.1, the next major update for its mobile operating system, yet people are already dreaming of what future versions of the platform might have to offer to them.

There’s no telling on what Microsoft might be looking to include in the platform past the Windows Phone 8.1, though enthusiasts already know what they would like to see in the OS.

A new Windows Phone 9 concept, available courtesy of a neowin forum user, appears meant to show exactly this, though it is focused mainly on the start screen.

This is, in fact, the feature that sets Windows Phone apart from other mobile platforms out there, and the concept should suffice in offering a new view on the mobile OS.

The main idea that can be extracted from the concept renders attached to this article is that Windows Phone 9 might arrive on devices with a focus on transparency.

The Start Screen in these images features transparent Live Tiles, which provide a new dimension to the OS, that’s for sure. Moreover, they also provide users with a better taste of the underlying wallpaper, something that Windows Phone does not offer in its current form.

Basically, the wallpaper is visible not only in between the Live Tiles, but also through them, which brings the screen to life in a way, as redmondpie notes.

On top of that, Windows Phone 9 is said to come with fast access to the Me page, which will allow users to easily post to social networks such as Facebook or Twitter, getting in touch with friends on WhatsApp, and so on.

The page can be accessed like a slide-out drawer, which was also designed to offer quick access to notifications, recent updates, and the like.

Of course, the concept is only the result of an enthusiast’s imagination for the time being, and it might never make it to devices as an official platform, though it would certainly appeal to many if it did.

As mentioned above, no official info on what to expect from a Windows Phone release beyond the upcoming 8.1 version has been provided as of now, and there’s no actual confirmation that such a platform iteration will be released, though this won’t stop enthusiasts from thinking of it.

For the time being, we should say that the perspective of a Windows Phone 9 OS with transparent Live Tiles is appealing, despite its being only a concept. Have a look at the available renders and let us know what you think of it.
