Windows Phone 8, the next major release of Microsoft’s mobile OS, is expected to arrive with a series of enhancements on the backup/restore side, a recent job listing at the Redmond-based company shows.

In its attempt to deliver to the market a highly competitive mobile operating system, Microsoft seems determined to ensure that users will enjoy as many appealing features in it as possible.

And since keeping personal files safe is one of these, especially in a world dominated by cloud computing, this is where the software giant decided to score.

At the moment, the company is hiring an engineer for its Windows Phone Backup, Migrate, and Restore team.

The team is in charge with ensuring that users' data remains unaltered even at times when the smartphone is stolen or disaster strikes.

Here’s what the said job listing reads: Come join the Windows Phone Backup, Migrate, and Restore team.

Our goal is to ensure that no matter if someone loses their phone, drops their phone in a lake, buys a new windows phone, or just has their toddler wipe their phone by entering the wrong PIN over and over, a user can quickly and seamlessly get their phone back to a good state.

The features we are producing will be new for the next version of Windows Phone and will help ensure Microsoft stays ahead of the competition when it comes to disaster recovery. Come be a part of defining this area.

Providing users with the possibility to have their data backed up into the cloud will certainly increase Windows Phone’s appeal, especially since rival mobile operating systems out there benefit from similar functionality.

For the time being, no specific info on when the new feature will be included in Windows Phone emerged, but rumor has it that this will happen as soon as the next major release is here. Code named Apollo (or Windows Phone 8), it should arrive in Q4 next year.
