On Monday, Microsoft officially launched its new Windows Phone 8 operating system, unveiling new features for the OS and confirming the near availability of handsets running under it, including those coming from Nokia.

The Finnish handset vendor is betting a lot on the new flavor of Microsoft’s mobile platform, and the features and capabilities it has packed inside its new Lumia 920 and Lumia 820 devices come as proof of that.

At the same time, the company is also pleased with the manner in which Windows Phone is evolving, and Nokia’s Head of Developer Experience, Marco Argenti, has confirmed that to Nokia Conversations recently.

According to him, the new mobile OS iteration is the most innovative platform in the world, and the hardware that will accompany it to the market will bring that to surface.

Windows Phone 8 is the most innovative operating system in the world,” he said in an interview with the news site.

“And Nokia Lumia is the most innovative hardware: we’ve pushed it to the limit in the Lumia 920 with technologies like NFC, the imaging capabilities, the low light performance, the complete integration of those technologies into the core OS.”

Not only does Windows Phone propose a new manner to interact with the smartphone, but it also offers a wide range of customization options to all users, starting with various color flavors for the UI, and going all the way to the possibility to resize the tiles on the screen.

Windows Phone 8 comes with enhancements over previous flavors of the OS, including a new lock screen, support for native development (which should be more than welcomed by developers), great Windows 8 syncing capabilities, and more.

In fact, the platform is so well connected to Windows 8 that developers will find it very easy to deploy apps that could work on a variety of screens, including phones, tablets and large monitors.

“Another piece of great news for game developers is the support of Unity engine both for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8,” Marco Argenti also notes.

Nokia’s first Windows Phone 8 devices are set to become available for purchase as soon as this week in Europe, and should enjoy expanded availability before the end of November.
