Windows Phone 8, the mobile operating system flavor that Microsoft made available back in October last year, has managed to top Windows Phone 7’s usage in the United States.

According to the latest data from AdDuplex, the number of Windows Phone 8 devices in the country is now larger than the one of those running under the older platform release from Microsoft.

“The day has come. Windows Phone in the US: 50,01% WP8, 49.99% WP7,” AdDuplex notes in a recent post on Twitter.

The figures refer only to the US market at the moment but, as WMPoweruser notes, with new Windows Phone 8 devices – such as the Nokia Lumia 620 – landing on shelves around the world, the newer platform release might soon take the lead in other markets as well.
