Microsoft could make the Windows Phone 8 developer tools available for download before the end of this month, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest.

According to WPDang, sources familiar with the matter confirmed that the Windows Phone 8 SDK would be released in the last week of July.

At first, the software will be released only in a beta flavor, but the final release should arrive later this year, in line with the official availability of the platform.

In the meantime, however, devs will be able to take advantage of the available developer tools for Windows Phone 7.5 to build applications for the next-generation operating system, as they will be compatible with both platforms.

WMPoweruser also notes that there could be an issue with the Windows Phone 8 emulator, which would require Windows 8 on the targeted machine.
