Windows Phone 8

, the latest mobile OS from Microsoft, could have been adopted by more handset vendors out there, provided its licensing fees were smaller and its market share was higher, a new report suggests.

Furthermore, it seems that Nokia’s large market share on Windows Phone is also keeping vendors away from it, sources from the Taiwan-based supply chain makers claim, according to DigiTimes.

At the moment, Nokia accounts for more than 70 percent of the Windows Phone 8 devices out there, while the platform managed to grab only 3 percent of the market, and not 10 percent as previous estimates suggested.

Acer, ASUS and ZTE, initially set to release WP8 handsets this year, have delayed they plans due to this state of facts and because it’s difficult for them to compete with Nokia in this segment, and are said to be conservative about adopting the OS.
