Australian mobile phone carrier Vodafone is getting ready for the release of a new software update for owners of the Nokia Lumia 925 smartphone.

Last week, the operator unveiled some more info on the latest software update plans on its official blog, and announced that a new firmware version for the aforementioned Windows Phone handset was under testing in its labs.

We’re referring here to the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 update for the device, which is called PR 2.0 Maintenance Release at the wireless carrier.

“All the key features will be posted to the Vodafone Community before we roll it out but it will be GDR3,” Vodafone Australia announced on Twitter.

According to WMPoweruser, the wireless services provider should be ready to deliver the new firmware release to its users in about two weeks from now.

The company usually needs about half a month to kick off the deployment of new firmware versions after the testing phase, and it might make a similar move with the new software too.

The company is getting ready for the release of software updates for other devices on its network as well, yet Lumia 925 is the only Windows Phone 8 smartphone that is being updated.

The PR 2.0 Maintenance Release should provide Lumia 925 users not only with the enhancements and benefits that the Windows Phone 8 GDR3 OS flavor was packed with, but also with a series of improvements and new features coming from Nokia too, which are part of the Lumia Black update.

Among these, we can count support for Bluetooth Low Energy, along with a Driving mode, better multi-tasking capabilities, and an enhanced camera.

For the time being, Vodafone Australia customers with a Lumia 925 in their hands only know that the new software is coming soon to them. However, specific details on the release should be offered soon, so stay tuned.
