Before the end of the year, Microsoft is expected to make available two updates for the Windows Phone 8 platform, one that should arrive soon as GDR2, and another set to be released towards the end of the year as GRD3, new reports suggest.

The company was said before to plan such a move, and it seems that more confirmation on the matter is now available, a recent article on The Verge notes.

The news site also notes that Windows Phone 8 GDR3 will bring support for new hardware (the previously rumored 1080p screens and quad-core CPUs), so as to enable manufacturers to release more powerful smartphones before the end of 2013.

In 2014, Microsoft should release another major upgrade for the platform, codenamed Blue, which should pack features such as notification center, improved multitasking, and modified built-in applications.

Apparently, Microsoft planned on bringing new features to the OS earlier, but various bugs determined it to push their launch beyond the GDR2 update.
