Microsoft is getting ready for the release of a new flavor of its mobile operating system, supposedly set to arrive on devices as Windows Phone 8 GDR2, and some more info on the features that it will have to provide to users is now available.

Apparently, the new platform release will make it easier for users to discover open Wi-Fi hotspots in their vicinity, which should deliver important data savings to all of them.

The feature is part of Datasense, which is currently available for Windows Phone 8 users on Verizon’s network, but which will land on other devices as well, WMPoweruser notes.

Through it, users will also be able to keep an eye on the data usage of their devices, while also receiving info on the applications that eat the most data.

All this should be available to users as part of the Windows Phone GDR2 update, expected to arrive sometime in July.
