Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system has been expected lately to receive a new software update in the not too distant future.

Now, some solid confirmation on the matter has emerged, courtesy of Australian wireless carrier Telstra.

The company has posted on its support website some info regarding the upcoming availability of the new platform release, suggesting that it will receive it for testing in mid-May.

As WMPoweruser notes, this means that the new OS version will land on devices sometime in early June, since carriers usually take around three weeks to complete the testing of such updates.

“The GDR2 update for the Lumia 920 has not been provided to Telstra for testing yet. Nokia have informed us that they are expecting to submit in mid-May and have not been able to bring that date in any further,” the carrier said.
