Developers will be able to use XNA, but will lack access to all WP8 features

Microsoft made a series of changes to the development tools for its upcoming Windows Phone 8 platform, and some of them might affect the manner in which apps and games are built for it.

Previously, Microsoft said that XNA development would continue to be supported in the upcoming OS version, but it appears that the company is encouraging developers to move to C++/native.

Last week’s leaked Windows Phone 8 SDK came along with some documentation that confirmed the support for XNA Framework.

However, it appears that XNA is running in "quirks mode" in Windows Phone 8, at least this is what some developers claim.

This means that while still there, XNA won’t have access to the entire set of Windows Phone 8 features, although it will be able to take full advantage of the hardware.
