Huawei is one of the mobile phone makers expected to bring to the market devices running under Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system later this year, and new photos with their first such handset are now available.

Dubbed Huawei Ascend W1, the phone is said to arrive on shelves with low- to mid-range hardware specifications, while featuring a range of color options, the same as Nokia’s Lumia phones do.

As can be seen in the new images with the device (available courtesy of weibo via WMPoweruser), we can expect it to pack a design similar to that of HTC’s Windows Phone 8 devices, which was already expected to make Nokia angry due to resemblance with its own phones.

Specs-wise, however, the handset will offer downgraded performance capabilities, mainly due to its 1.2GHz dual-core processor complemented by only 512MB of RAM (and packing a 400MHz GPU).

On the front, the new mobile phone will sport a 4-inch WVGA touchscreen display, as well as a front VGZ camera for making video calls while on the go.

A 5-megapixel back photo snapper will also be included in the package, capable of recording videos as well, most probably in HD resolution.

The specifications list of this device also includes 4GB of internal memory, yet there is no mentioning of a microSD memory card slot available for expansion purposes.

The Windows Phone 8-based Huawei Ascend W1 is also said to sport a 2000 mAh battery inside, as well as a microUSB charging port at the bottom, though not centered, as on other devices.

The smartphone has previously been rumored to make an official appearance by the end of September or early October, at the latest, but it hasn’t been formally introduced as of yet.

However, with Windows Phone 8 set to be released at the end of this month, Huawei’s smartphone might be launched in the coming weeks as well, and could hit shelves before the end of 2012.
