Redmond-based software giant Microsoft has been long rumored to plan the launch of a new version of the Windows Phone operating system, one that would arrive sometime in Q2 as Windows Phone 8.1, and some more info on the platform is now available.

Among the many changes that Microsoft is expected to include in the upcoming OS upgrade is a new large live tile that users will get to enjoy, it seems.

Info on the matter comes from Windows Phone leaker Nawzil, who claims that there will be four different Live Tile sizes included in the platform, namely Small, Medium, Wide, and Large.

As WMPoweruser notes, the new Tile size might be similar to the one showed in a previously leaked Windows Phone 8.1 concept design, which can be seen attached to this post.

No official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now, but chances are that Microsoft is indeed getting ready to implement the change, the same as it did in Windows 8.1 recently.

Overall, it appears that the company plans on bringing more than simple UI tweaks to its mobile operating system in the upcoming release, at least this is what the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to arrive with a new notifications center inside, as well as with a personal voice assistant, called Cortana (recently, it has been said to be powered by Foursquare data).

According to previous reports on the matter, Microsoft is ready to release the OS version to manufacturers sometime in March, while planning on showcasing it in early April at the Build conference.

Moreover, the company has been said to aim at having the update ready for deployment sometime in late April or early May.

With no official announcement on the matter, we’ll take the above with a grain of salt for the time being. However, it appears that things are about to pan out, so keep an eye on this space for updates.
