Redmond-based software giant Microsoft is reportedly getting ready for the release of the Windows Phone 8.1 update sometime in late April, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

Apparently, the platform release will arrive a few weeks after the release of Windows 8.1 Update 1, which is supposedly set for mid-March availability.

According to a recent article on ZDNet, the mobile platform will RTM ahead of the Microsoft's Build 2014 conference, which starts on April 2.

However, the actual update will not arrive on devices until late April, after Microsoft and its partners have settled down the latest details for its release.

Microsoft was previously rumored to bring the desktop and mobile platforms even closer than before with the release of Windows Phone 8.1 and Windows 8.1 Update 1, but it appears that this won’t happen, as no API changes will be included in the latter.

Even so, the new flavor of the mobile operating system will arrive on devices with a nice range of enhancements, including a notification center, and a personal assistant, similar with Google Now and Siri.

Windows Phone 8.1 is also said to include support for on-screen Back, Start and Search buttons, along with separate volume controls for the ringer and media playback, as PhoneDog notes.

On top of that, Microsoft might expand the support that Twitter and Facebook are currently enjoying in the People Hub, it seems.

Unfortunately, no official confirmation on the possible new features in Windows Phone 8.1 has been provided as of now, and it remains to be seen what exactly Microsoft would have in store for its users with the update.

Hopefully, the new report on the update’s arrival will pan out, which means that additional details on the matter will be provided in the not too distant future, so keep an eye on this space to learn the news.
