No info on which devices will receive it has been provided

Last week, Microsoft has started to deliver the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system upgrade to the owners of Windows Phone 8-based Nokia devices out there, in the form of Lumia Cyan, and it appears that wireless carrier AT&T might be ready to kick off the deployment of the update as soon as this week.

No official announcement on the matter has been made as of now, but an AT&T community manager did mention on the official AT&T Forums that the new platform iteration could be released in a few days.

Responding to a user inquiry on the matter, said manager revealed that specific handsets on the wireless carrier’s network might receive the new platform iteration very soon.

While no handset has been mentioned there, chances are that Lumia 925 and Lumia 1520, which are already receiving the new platform upgrade in other markets out there, will be the first Windows Phone 8 handsets at AT&T to be updated (though all of them should receive it sooner or later).

Of course, there is also the possibility that the community manager let the info slip before the wireless carrier actually came up with an upgrade plan, and that things will not pan out in the end.

One thing that is certain, however, is the fact that Lumia Cyan and Windows Phone 8.1 will arrive on all compatible devices in a matter of weeks, just as Microsoft has revealed.

Moreover, we should also note that Lumia smartphones are not the only devices set to get a taste of the upgrade. In fact, Microsoft announced in April that all Windows Phone 8 handsets out there were eligible for an upgrade to the newer operating system version.

Windows Phone 8.1 will deliver a nice range of new features to all users, starting with the Action Center, and going all the way to a new flavor of the default browser, namely Internet Explorer 11.

At the same time, the new platform iteration will provide users with Start Screen backgrounds for additional personalization options, as well as with the Word Flow keyboard, and more.

One of the main enhancements included in Windows Phone 8.1, however, remains Cortana, the digital personal assistant that is currently available exclusively in the United States (in an official manner, however).

On Nokia phones, the Lumia Cyan firmware upgrade will also deliver a series of enhancements exclusive to them, including updated camera applications and various performance improvements.
