14 DAY TRIAL // HTC 8X is one of the few smartphones that has yet to receive Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 updates. Even though HTC previously confirmed the upgrade would eventually arrive on its 8X smartphone, the rollout is extremely low.
In fact the handset only got its promised update in a few countries. Not to mention that very few carriers made Windows Phone 8.1 available to HTC 8X owners.
For example, in the United States, Verizon delayed the update indefinitely and the same goes for AT&T, which is still mum on the release of Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X.
There are rumors that Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X might even be canceled by some carriers, but these haven’t been confirmed by official statements yet.
However, given the fact that most of these carriers avoid coming forward with an ETA for the release of the long-awaited Windows Phone 8.1 upgrade for HTC 8X, it won’t come as a surprise if the update won’t arrive at all.
The situation isn’t better in the UK, another important smartphone market where Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X should have arrived in late November. Currently, very few HTC 8X owners in the UK have gotten Microsoft’s latest OS update and there’s no telling if things will improve in the future.
Windows Phone users in Canada who own the HTC 8X should be pleased that at least one carrier confirmed this update would eventually be available for download.
Rogers Canada has just updated its OS upgrades scheduler, and among the devices expected to receive new software updates, it mentions the HTC 8X as well.
No ETA has been given, but Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X is "coming soon"
Unfortunately, Rogers does not share any details on Windows Phone 8.1 for HTC 8X release date, but confirms that the update is “coming soon.”
Windows Phone 8.1 will bring lots of new features and improvements to HTC 8X owners, but it won’t be the last major OS update the smartphone will receive.
Microsoft promised that Windows Phone 10 would be available for all smartphones now running Windows Phone 8, including the HTC 8X.
Sadly, HTC 8X owners will have to wait a bit longer until Windows Phone 8.1 update arrives on their smartphones, though Microsoft released the upgrade several months ago.
