One of the enhancements that Microsoft is planning on providing users with as part of its Windows Phone 8.1 update is the option to mute conversations, the latest reports suggest.

Details on the matter have been found in the recently released Windows Phone 8.1 SDK, with the feature meant to allow users to mute conversations in the messaging application, as WPCentral explains in a recent post.

The news site also unveils that users will be able to take advantage of the muting option on conversations regardless of whether they are with a single individual or with an entire group of users.

The feature will work in a manner similar to the option to block communications from a specific user. However, when muting someone, messages from the contact will still arrive.

Basically, the only difference when it comes to normal conversations is the fact that you will no longer receive a notification when a message from the muted user has been received. Moreover, these conversations won’t appear in the Live Tile count either.

The functionality will also provide users with the possibility to unmute conversations as easily as they can be muted.

WPCentral notes that not only has the feature made an appearance in the aforementioned Windows Phone 8.1 SDK, but it has already been confirmed to make it inside the final version of the mobile OS too.

According to previous reports on the matter, Microsoft will be ready to publicly show Windows Phone 8.1 in early April, at the BUILD conference.

Moreover, it should release it to manufacturers just before the conference, and it might be aiming at starting the official deployment on devices out there in late April or May.

Recently, the company has been rumored to be actually aiming at a general release later in the summer, yet no official confirmation on the matter has been provided as of now. Hopefully, it won’t be long before such details are unveiled, so stay tuned to learn the news.
