Windows Phone 8.1, the latest mobile operating system version from Microsoft, is getting closer and closer to an official release, and it seems that users in Argentina are almost certain to receive it in the third quarter of the year.

The platform has already started to arrive on selected Nokia Lumia 925 devices in the country, but a full rollout has yet to kick off.

According to a recent post on WindowsPhoneApps.es, the platform upgrade will arrive on existing Windows Phone 8 devices in the country soon, yet no specific date for its availability has been provided as of now.

The fact that it will arrive in the third quarter of the year does not appear to be that much of news either, since Microsoft has already announced plans to release the new OS flavor before the end of the summer.

However, having additional confirmation on such things is always great, and this is exactly what has emerged now, said news site claims.

The information was passed on during the official launch of Nokia Lumia 630 in the country, where all WP8 Lumia devices already available there, ranging from Nokia Lumia 520 to Lumia 1520, were confirmed to receive the Windows Phone 8.1 update in Q3 this year.

These phones will receive the new software iteration as the Lumia Cyan update, and chances are that Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020 will be the very first to have a taste of it, winbeta notes.

A few weeks ago, Microsoft has started testing out the deployment of Windows Phone 8.1 on existing devices in various markets out there, including Finland, Spain, and more.

While this pilot rollout has confirmed that the OS upgrade is almost ready for general availability, it still remains to be seen exactly when it will start landing on smartphones.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Microsoft has officially announced Windows Phone 8.1 during the BUILD conference in April, and that it has packed it with a nice range of enhancements over the previous platform iteration.

Thus, those who will install it on their handsets will enjoy features such as Notifications / Action Center, an upgraded Internet Explorer, Start screen backgrounds, and a digital personal assistant called Cortana (though it is available only in the US for the time being).

Windows Phone 8.1 has been previously rumored to arrive in July, but it seems that it could land anytime until September. Hopefully, users won’t have to wait so long for it, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
