14 DAY TRIAL // After making the Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 platform upgrade available for download for the owners of handsets running under the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview OS, Microsoft also released updated developer tools for it.
The new Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 SDK and Emulators are now available for download from Microsoft’s own portal, and those interested in grabbing them will have to download two different files.
“The Windows Phone 8.1 Update Emulators package adds additional emulator images to an existing installation of Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 or later. With this update installed, you can create and test apps that will run on devices that have Windows Phone 8.1 Update,” Microsoft explains.
What the Windows Phone 8.1 Update Emulators package will add to an existing installation includes the Windows Phone SDK 8.1 Update, along with Windows Phone 8.1 Update Emulators for WVGA 4-inch, WVGA 4-inch 512MB, WXGA 4.5-inch, 720p 4.7-inch, 1080p 5.5-inch, and 1080p 6-inch screen sizes and resolutions.
The new developer tools are available with support for Windows 8.1 devices, while also requiring Visual Studio 2013 Update 2 or later. To grab them, simply head over to the aforementioned Microsoft download portal, where you will also find the necessary installation instructions.
