The feature was only available for Windows Phone 8.1 enterprise users

Windows Phone 8.1 early adopters are probably wondering where the VPN service that Microsoft promised to its fans a few months ago is. It appears that Microsoft did include the VPN feature onto Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview, but the service is only available to enterprise users.

However, WMPoweruser reports that there’s a new VPN service available for end users who wish to take advantage of this feature on their Windows Phone 8.1 devices.

Keep in mind thought that this does not come for free, as the company responsible for offering the VPN service for Windows Phone 8.1 devices is asking a $5 monthly fee.

Fortunately, those who wish to try the service before actually start paying for it can take advantage of the VPN service for free for 3 days thanks to the trial offered by the company.

According to the developers of the application that offers VPN services, thanks to the IKEv2 protocol supported in Windows Phone, all devices powered by the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile platform should have no issues with interruptions and occasional connection drops.

Apparently, “if the connection is temporarily lost, or if a user moves from one network to another, IKEv2 will automatically restore the VPN connection after the network connection is reestablished.”

Windows Phone 8.1 users who wish to use VPN services will be provided with a certificate, after which they will be allowed to install the application that acts like a gateway for these services.

According to the VPN provider, the services are available for more than 35 countries, so if you’re looking for a VPN connection for United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Italy, Japan and many more, you will definitely find this VPN service useful.

The only downside is the fact that it doesn’t come for free, but those who purchase VPN services for longer than one month can get it for much cheaper ($3 per month when bought for 1 year).

VPNTraffic is a great solution for end users looking for VPN services on their Windows Phone 8.1, assuming that the service is really working and does not cheat its customers by not offering valid VPN connections.

As we’re getting closer to Windows Phone 8.1’s official market release, we expect more VPN services to be offered to devices powered by this platform, and hopefully, some of them will come for free. Until then, we might want to take advantage of the trial offered by VPNTraffic.
