As long as Microsoft continues to roll out Windows Phone 8.1 to compatible devices, the market share of the new operating system will increase exponentially. The latest Windows Phone statistics report for July 2014 from the reputable mobile ad network AdDuplex reveals just that.

Windows Phone 8.1 market share increased by 4.2% since last month, mostly thanks to the launch of new smartphones powered by this version of the OS, such as Lumia 630, Lumia 635, and Lumia 930.

The fact that Microsoft has also kicked off the rollout of the Windows Phone 8.1 update in many countries also contributed to this improvement. The things will get even better once Nokia Lumia 530 goes on sale next month and Microsoft releases Windows Phone 8.1 for more smartphones.

According to AdDuplex, Windows Phone 8 now accounts for 70.4% of the Windows Phone market, down by 4.9% from last month. Windows Phone 7.x still owns 17.7% of the market, while Windows Phone 8.1 share, as mentioned earlier, increased to 11.9% and will continue to rise in the next weeks.

Concerning Windows Phone manufacturers, Nokia is the only major company with noticeable gains (0.7%), but that’s to be expected given the fact that other companies have yet to launch new smartphones.

As a matter fact, Nokia owns no less than 94.5% of the Windows Phone market, while HTC is at 3.7%. Next in line is Samsung with a market share of only 1.1%, while Huawei accounts for 0.7% of the Windows Phone market.

When it comes to smartphone sales, Nokia Lumia 520 is by far the top seller with 30.9%. Here is the rest of the rankings: Nokia Lumia 625 (7.2%), Nokia Lumia 920 (6.5%), Nokia Lumia 710 (5.2%), Nokia Lumia 521 (4.9%), Nokia Lumia 720 (4.7%), Nokia Lumia 925 (3.6%), Nokia Lumia 800 (3.5%) and Nokia Lumia 820 (3.5%).

In the United States, the situation remains almost unchanged since last month when it comes to Windows Phone handsets. Nokia Lumia 521 is the best-selling device in the country with a 30.6% market share, while Lumia 520 now owns 18.6% of the Windows Phone market.

Here are the rest of the top 10 rankings: Nokia Lumia 920 (8.4%), Nokia Lumia 822 (5.5%), HTC 8X (4.7%), Nokia Lumia 928 (4.4%), Nokia Lumia 925 (4.1%), Nokia Lumia 1020 (3.6%), Nokia Lumia 1520 (2.8%) and Nokia Lumia 630 (2.1%).

The US-based carrier Cricket Wireless is certainly responsible for the new entry in the top, the Nokia Lumia 630. As long as more operators start carrying Windows Phone handsets, the platform will perform even better, so here is hoping more carriers will offer these new Windows Phone 8.1 handsets.
