Windows Phone users anxiously waiting for Microsoft to start rolling out the latest version of its mobile platform will be pleased to know that the update is now available for some.

Even though it's not yet available for everyone, at least it's a good sign that Microsoft has started to offer the highly anticipated Windows Phone 8.1 update.

Finnish blog site ääni reports that the Lumia Cyan update is now being deployed in Finland as a pilot. Obviously, the upgrade contains the Windows Phone 8.1 update, along with the improvements and new features exclusively available to Nokia Lumia smartphones.

Assuming you live in Finland, you can only download the update if you own a Nokia Lumia 925. It appears that the update is only available for this particular smartphone.

Furthermore, those who do not know how to download and upgrade to Windows Phone 8.1, or they simply don't want to wait for the update to be automatically pushed to their phones as part of the pilot project, can head over to Nokia Store in Helsinki on June 26 and 27 where reps will update their Lumia 925 smartphones on the spot.

Back in April, Microsoft released the Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview and more than a million users have already installed it on their smartphones.

Given the fact that Microsoft has confirmed on its official website that support for Windows Phone 8.1 will start on June 24, everyone assumed that the update would be released on the same date as well.

However, it appears that's not how it works and Windows Phone 8.1 will be released in waves, so it will be available at different times depending on region.

Windows Phone users in Finland who own a Lumia 925 can consider themselves lucky to be among the first to be able to download Windows Phone 8.1 on their smartphones.

According to the Finnish blog that came up with the news, you will need about 1.5GB storage space for the update. Also, make sure your Lumia 925's battery is at least 50% charged and that it's connected to a stable Wi-Fi network, as the update is pushed OTA (over the air).

The update is pushed in two parts. After installing the first update, the phone will automatically check for the second part, which will then pop up on the phone immediately.

It's also worth mentioning that the update process takes about 15-30 minutes, but it can also take up to 60 minutes, depending on how much content you have on the smartphone.

There's a slim chance that others may have received the Windows Phone 8.1 update as well, carrying other phones than the Lumia 925, so we ask our readers to let us know if they have captured the update or not.

Update: It looks like the update also appeared in Argentina for Nokia Lumia 925 owners, as part of the pilot project.
