Windows Phone 8.1, the latest flavor of Microsoft’s mobile operating system, should receive a new update sometime in the next couple of months, and some info on what this refresh will bring along has emerged online today.

According to a post on NokiaPowerUser, the update, supposedly called Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2, will expand the availability of Cortana to more markets out there.

The update is also said to include sorting of Settings capabilities, enabling users to have them listed in an alphabetical order, similar to how applications are listed.

On top of that, Windows Phone 8.1 GDR2 should provide users with a mobile data toggle in Action Center, it seems. Most probably, Microsoft will deliver it to users in the form of Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2.

Apparently, the OS upgrade will be released in a Developer Preview flavor sometime in October, which means that it could become generally available before the end of the year, although no official confirmation on the matter has been provided.

At the moment, Microsoft is working on completing the deployment of Windows Phone 8.1 to all WP8 devices out there, while also applying the final touches to Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1, which is currently available for download as a Developer Preview release.

As mentioned above, the Redmond-based company hasn’t formally announced WP8.1 GDR2, though it might not be too long before it does that, so stay tuned for more on the matter.
