Over the past several months, we’ve seen a lot of reports regarding the possible release of a Windows Phone-based version of HTC One M8, and it appears that we are currently nearing an official unveiling of this device.

The Taiwanese mobile phone maker has started sending out invitations to a press event set to take place in New York City on August 19, and chances are that the meeting will be focused on Windows Phone.

Earlier this week, the new flavor of HTC One M8 was rumored to become available for Verizon’s customers starting August 21, and it seems that the report might actually pan out.

HTC hasn’t provided details on what will be announced at the aforementioned event, but the fact that said invitations that have gone out to websites focus on Microsoft’s mobile OS leaves little room for guessing.

According to WPCentral, however, it seems that the phone won’t be called HTC One (M8) for Windows Phone, as previously reported, but that it might actually feature the name of HTC One (W8).

The Windows Phone 8.1-based HTC One M8 version should arrive on shelves with about the same hardware specs as those of the Android flagship, including the all-metal body design.

Moreover, the smartphone is expected to feature a 5-inch touchscreen display capable of delivering a full HD resolution, along with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) processor in US/EMEA.

The CPU will be accompanied by 2GB of RAM, as well as by 16GB or 32GB of internal memory. A microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of internal memory should also be present inside the phone.

HTC One W8 is also said to measure 36 x 70.6 x 9.35mm and to weigh 160 grams. It might arrive in three color flavors, including Gunmetal Gray, Glacial Silver, and Amber Gold.

The handset should land on the market with all of the usual connectivity capabilities packed inside, including support for Verizon's new Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Apparently, it might be the very first Windows Phone 8.1 smartphone to feature the capability.

Additionally, the mobile phone might be accompanied by the Dot View Case that was released alongside the Android variant. Windows Phone 8.1 Update was discovered to include support for smart covers, and the upcoming HTC One W8 should run under this platform iteration right from the start.

For the time being, however, no official confirmation on the Windows Phone 8.1-based HTC One M8 has been provided, and it remains to be seen how much of the info above will pan out in the end.
