Windows Phone 7, the mobile operating system flavor that Microsoft brought to the market several months ago, is expected to become the fastest growing mobile platform in the world during the ongoing year.

Off for a slow start, the mobile OS is enjoying great support from the developers' community, as well as from leading mobile phone makers around the world, and that should help it grow significantly during the ongoing year.

Windows Phone 7 should rise to such extent that independent analyst Ovum predicted that the mobile operating system would actually be set to become the fastest growing mobile platform for the ongoing year.

Previous predictions regarding Microsoft's mobile platform also suggested that it might soon become one of the leading OSes in the world, and is seems that more analysts tend to agree with that.

According to a recent article on Voxy.co.nz (via WMPoweruser), Ovum stated that “Windows Phone 7 will upset the status quo in the smartphone market by becoming the fastest-growing smartphone platform.”

The platform should enjoy expanded availability in the near future, with more handsets powered by it being brought to the market, something that should prove beneficial for its rise.

However, this is not the only change in the telecoms landscape that 2011 would bring, the analyst firm notes.

They also note that Android in on its way to become the platform of choice for mobile developers, and that the Apple iOS would fall behind it in this area.

Handset users would start using more and more cloud services, Ovum says, adding that broadband would see impressive increase in emerging markets.

“The telecoms landscape is changing rapidly and our predictions reflect that. Each of our practices has given their expert forecasts for the major shifts set to take place in their area over the coming year. The predictions make for compelling reading for anyone with an interest in the industry,” Jan Dawson, Ovum's chief telecoms analyst, said.
