Users of a device running under Windows Phone 7, the latest version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, have now at their disposal a number of over 9,000 applications available for download via the Windows Phone Marketplace.

The number has been steadily growing ever since the new platform was launched back in October, and things accelerated lately, as more an more developers submit their apps to the portal.

The portal is nearing the availability of over 10k mobile applications for Windows Phone 7 devices out there, an impressive number when compared to the previous Windows Marketplace for Mobile.

However, the storefront still has a lot to catch up when compared to the number of apps available for users of iPhone or Android devices.

Various sites that track the number of applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace show a different result, but the general idea is the same: the portal will soon surpass the 10,000 apps mark, achieving this milestone in only six months after the initial roll-out.

With over 28,000 registered developers, and over 1 million developer tools downloaded, it should not be long before the Marketplace manages to leave behind software portals like the BlackBerry App World, or Ovi Suite.

The milestone was not officially confirmed for the time being, but Microsoft might make the move pretty soon.

Until that happens, you might want to have a look at one of the latest video ads available for the Windows Phone 7 mobile platform.

The ad is focused on one of the smartphones available for purchase at the moment via wireless carrier AT&T in the United States, namely the Samsung Focus.

Unlike previous ads for the platform, the new video presents a series of features that the Windows Phone 7 devices arrive on shelves with, so as to enable users make a broader idea of the capabilities of this device.
