Redmond-based software giant Microsoft seems set to make Windows Phone 7 available on devices on the market next October, the company mentioned during a recent presentation of the mobile operating system. We already knew that the first mobile phones powered by the platform would arrive on shelves sometime during the fourth quarter of the ongoing year, with a series of rumors that they would land in the first part of the quarter, but now things seem to have been almost confirmed. “I'm gonna ask rock star Kostas... to come on. And Kostas has brought with him Windows Phone 7, which we launch this October,” Microsoft VP for Marketing Mich Mathews stated when introducing GM of Live Labs' Kostas Mallios at the Cannes Lions advertising conference. A quick look at the video embedded below will unveil you her saying, followed by a presentation of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 operating system.

As for what features of the smartphone platform are presented in the video below, we should mention three of them, including applications as ads; the possibility to pin these software solutions to the start screen as live tiles, while receiving updates from contacts and engaging in conversations with them; along with the notifications that application builders (or advertisers for AdApps) would send out to end-users (called “toast,” it seems). As a recent article on WMPoweruser reports, deep linking to apps available in store should also be possible, the video shows.

These and a series of other details on Windows Phone 7 are unveiled in the 8 minutes video below. Of course, having the platform supporting in-app advertising should appeal to some developers, but it still remains to be seen how well would the platform as a whole attract application builders on its side. In the meantime, we should mark October as the most likely launch window for Windows Phone 7, though and official confirmation might not emerge very soon. However, more info should become available as the release date nears, so stay tuned for more info on the matter.
