Updates from Microsoft and Research in Motion (RIM) are now available for handset owners whose desktop computer happens to be a Mac. The two companies’ desktop management tools for Windows Phone 7 and Blackberry devices have received important updates - detailed below.

“Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac is a new software application that enables you to synchronize your favorite music, videos, photos and podcasts from iTunes and iPhoto,” Microsoft notes on its web site.

“This software is not part of the Zune experience,” the Windows maker clarifies.

Microsoft is yet update its web site to reflect the changes undergone by Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac beta 2, but electronista reports that Microsoft AutoUpdate is pushing the release for existing users, likely accompanied by a changelog.

According to the web site, the update improves playback for AAC files synced from iTunes, adds the ability to reverse sync MP3s bought from the WP7 phone, and better sync from remote iTunes installs.

Additionally, direct device browsing has reportedly been updated with the ability to manually import individual items from the phone, as well as to delete them or preview them.

Last, but not least, Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac now handles iPhoto '11 libraries better, according to the aforementioned tech site, and organizes iPhoto collections by event first and by album only if necessary.

Other improvements are also included, according to the electronista report.

As for BlackBerry Desktop Manager (or BlackBerry Desktop Software) 2.0 for Mac OS X, the app “is designed to help BlackBerry smartphone users manage their BlackBerry smartphones using a Mac computer running Mac OS,” RIM notes.

The changelog contains no specifics whatsoever - only the following benefits are listed by the Blackberry makers:
