The first Windows Phone-based smartphone at Verizon Wireless is now available for purchase for all enthusiasts who have been expecting it since about five months ago.

January was the initially rumored release time frame for the first Windows Phone at Verizon, though Microsoft and Big Red had us waiting for much longer before making the Trophy available for purchase.

However, starting today, the HTC smartphone can be acquired from the wireless carrier with a price tag of $149.99 attached to it upon the singing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $50 online discount.

Running under Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system, the new mobile phone comes with all of the features that the original HTC 7 Trophy sports.

The handset features a 3.8" capacitive touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 800 pixels (WVGA) resolution, along with a fast 1GHz application processor, 576 MB of RAM and 16GB of on-board memory.

Measuring 4.67 x 2.42 x 0.47 inches (118.5 x 61.5 x 11.96mm) and weighing in at 4.9 oz. (140g), the new device sports a 1300 mAh battery that can deliver up to 294 minutes of talk time, or up to 286 hours of standby time.

The mobile phone would arrive with support for the carrier's CDMA network, as well as with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, 3.5mm audio jack, GPS receiver, and the usual set of sensors.

On the back, it sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with auto focus and flash, and with support for video recording.

The HTC Trophy would also offer support for a series of specific services and applications from Microsoft and Verizon, including My Verizon, Slacker Radio, Xbox Live, Netflix, Bing, Windows Live, and more.

“Keep gaming when you’re on the go with the Gamers Hub featuring Xbox LIVE on the HTC Trophy. Xbox LIVE lets you get more out of your game with avatars, profiles, and gamer scores,” Verizon notes.

“Xbox LIVE Marketplace lets you download cool new games from anywhere. Play solo, or take on friends in turn - based games.”
